What has Wantage West NAG achieved?
Wantage West NAG has achieved much since it began in 2006. Below are just some examples of our work.
Street lighting
For 2 successive years street lighting was identified as a priority from our questionnaires.
As a NAG we have:-
Publicised the Council number to call to report faulty lights.
Targeted specific areas where overgrown gardens were blocking the lights, (eg Belmont), leafleting residents asking them to cut back their foliage and arrange help for those unable to do the job themselves.
Arranged instalment & maintenance of a new light covering the path by Clarkes Mill.
Discussed lighting with the appropriate council department and the developers of new housing areas in Wantage & Grove.
We were pleased to see results from our efforts when Street lighting no longer showed as a priority after our last survey

Anti-social Behaviour
Wantage West Nag is lucky to count amongst its membership representatives of both the senior management at King Alfred’s School and students. When problems arose from groups of underage children gathering and drinking in Wantage Parks the school and The Police were able to work together to establish an effective joint strategy to deal with the problem. Similarly when we received numerous complaints about students cycling in one way streets, the school was able to react quickly and effectively.
Cold Calling Zones
In 2011 the Nag worked in conjunction with Oxfordshire Trading Standards to set up ‘No Cold-Calling’ zones to protect vulnerable residents in the Wantage and the east Grove estate.
It was NAG members who delivered 100’s of information leaflets and stickers to the houses.
We are pleased to report very positive feedback from local residents.
Emergency Support
Led by the Neighbourhood Police Team we have co-operated in providing a sytem of support for the elderly and vulnerable during the winter months and other emergency conditions.
